Video Series & Motion Branding — Innovate UK / UK Research and Innovation
A rebranded video series and motion identity system for the UK’s innovation and research agencies.
Innovate UK is the UK’s Innovation Agency, funding science and technology projects that drive economic growth. They needed to reach a wider audience through digital content, starting with a complete rebrand of their YouTube presence.
At Nucco, I storyboarded and art directed a series of animated films called Future Predictions, each exploring emerging technologies across energy, space, robotics and manufacturing. The team developed distinct visual extensions of the Innovate UK brand, with animated guidelines and format structures adopted by all of Innovate UK’s content providers for consistency across their output.
The results were significant: 650% increase in YouTube subscribers over 18 months, 875% increase in content views, and 125 media placements.
The series was later adapted into a 360° animated film projected inside an Igloo dome at Innovate UK’s trade show at the NEC, launching the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund. The 360 adaptation won gold at the Indigo Design Awards.
Following this work, I also art directed a motion branding suite for UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), creating a complete set of animated assets — intro/outro stings, lower thirds, title screens, animated text overlays — along with a technical manual for implementation across UKRI’s nine research councils.
