Learning from Incidents
Industrial Safety Training - Anglo American
An interactive 360° VR simulation training refinery workers to spot hazards before they become dangerous.
With large-scale mining and refining operations around the world, Anglo American needed an effective way to help workers stay safe in hazardous environments. Traditional safety training has limits — VR offered the chance to put people in realistic decision-making scenarios without any physical risk.
We created Learning From Incidents, an interactive 360° VR experience that simulates Anglo American’s Barro Alto Refinery in Brazil. Workers navigate the virtual plant, spotting hazards and making decisions in a safe, controlled environment. The modular structure lets them learn from mistakes and change their behaviour across successive attempts before engaging with actual work onsite.
I spent time with the Anglo American L&D team on-site to understand the operational reality, then developed a modular learning objective framework. I created comprehensive design documents, rough sketches and storyboards, and managed a team of writers, designers, 3D modellers, animators and developers through production. The experience beat all client expectations on both learning outcomes and visual realism.
